Re: kubot d662 parts wanted

Got both engines partially stripped, one has a crack in the head so is a breaker for parts for ebay or swapping for bits for the other engine. Both blocks have good bores and pistons at first inspection so the search for a decent injector cam and pump plus a starter are getting a bit more serious. S...

Re: diesel V twin ebay uk

Interesting, I have a e4000 engine currenty sat on a generator that no longer generates but runs very well, clean from start and starts easily. I am contemplating hanging it out of the front of a Morgan inspired 3 wheeler if its got the power to be usable - I've collected a motley collection of bits...

kubot d662 parts wanted

Hi to all, I have a couple of Kubota d662 engines ( 3 cylinder 658cc engines) I recently aquired, both missing starters and injector pumps and with rust to the injector cams as they have been sat like this a while, other than that I can say they turn over but will probably need a strip down and gask...

Re: False dipstick reading on Kubota Z482

Sorry to hear that but thanks for sharing, might save someone else suffering the same fate. Hope you get it sorted soon, I like that bmw and might at some point copy the engine transplant, the bike cirtainly could use a drop in consumption from standard form, I think our diesel mpv gets better mpg t...

Re: Roughly how much is insurance typically for a diesel?

Thanks again, gives me a few numbers to play with and companies to call, plus interesting about the getting different departments giving different answers. I had similar expiriences with CN with my bmw outfit after years of them covering my cb500/4 sidecar, with a cb550 engine, which they noted and ...

Re: The FrankenBrick Smart BMW build

Some great ideas comming through on this, kinda getting my brain into thinking that I might follow suit and ram a diesel into a bike just for the challenge. I don't entirely think for me it will be financially worth it unless over a very long timescale but the engineering challenges tikle my fancy. ...

Re: Roughly how much is insurance typically for a diesel?

Looks like an investigatory phonecall to Lynbrook is my best bet, see if they would allow a diesel to be added, and maybe get a ballpark figure for each of my 2 most likely builds. At least with the bmw I would be downsizing the engine with a kubota twin, and it was only a saving of £10 when I took ...

Roughly how much is insurance typically for a diesel?

Just thought I should ask what roughly insurance is likely to be for a diesel motorbike in uk? Given the point in the exersize is cheap transport and my current bikes are covered for any one of 3 riders on any combination of 5 bikes, at £158 on a classic policy where the biggest bike is an Ntv 650 t...

Re: anyone got a dead hatz 1d40?

Could well do, my data plate is kinda scrappy on it, combined with a missing flywheel and injector and it is a pretty sorry engine, but if I can find a thrown rod example I reacon it would be great in a bike, I have one on a road roller with hydraulics and it is great on fuel running a log splitter,...

Re: BMW instruments or bespoke?

There have got to be easier ways to get a speedo by the sound of it, I have have previously had some luck with swapping clocks between binicles on some bikes - mainly on my classic hondas when my originals finally wore out and it turned out superdream clocks were far cheaper ( sat on my spares shelf...

Re: BMW instruments or bespoke?

For what it is worth I had 2 bmw r series bikes of '78 vintage and found the electrics on both to be awfull even after buying replacement bits. I would go with what you are doing, junk most of it, maybe just keep the speedo, if it is mechanical. I've been contemplating diesel power for one of my bmw...

Re: Hi, newby here, might be asking questions later

They are getting air in due to dodgy tank to pipe union and having to shut down by starving of fuel whilst I figure out why they don't respond at all to the thottle. So starting getting better, still smoke a lot, which might be hopefully either post rebuild oil or stuck rings / bedding in. Out of re...

Re: Hi, newby here, might be asking questions later

I went a bit further then that, and ran them on a 1 hp electric motor via belt drive, no go until I re bled the pump. It was shifting fuel out of the injector pipe when the union was opened, but apparently not enough. As a rule I am getting stinky black whiffs of smoke every time I pull on the rope ...

anyone got a dead hatz 1d40?

Hi, been going through the loft of the shed and stumbled accross the remains of a hatz 1d40, it is largely incomplete and extensively robbed for parts but if anyone out there has one that has one that has thrown a rod then I could build a runner out of my bits plus theirs. Thought I might as well as...

Re: Hi, newby here, might be asking questions later

Realistically I'm afraid anything diesel bikewise is going to be slow progress as being a parent comes first, but looking through this website I am getting a few ideas, most likely involving a bmw based diesel sidecar, though since mouse from this forum arrived at my gaff to buy a car engine on a ku...

Re: Hi, newby here, might be asking questions later

Well, wasted another few precious hours trying to get the ruggerinis to start, they are not exactly easy to get going using rope start, my petter dumper and hatz road roller both put them to shame but both use handles. One of the ruggerinis has a self engaging decompressor similar to the hatz roller...

Hi, newby here, might be asking questions later

Hi, as the title suggests I'm new to this forum. I have been abusing petrol engined motorbikes for a decade and more as regular transport, have finally given in and gotten a car and am suitably horrified by the costs and as a long term idea have had the idea of a diesel bike in the back of my mind f...
