Re: The biginning of the heap of crap

Well I had a good day at the national arboretum it was a bit wet but worth it. My old bike made it still a bit of life in it yet. Anyway I took the gearbox off the engine Tuesday I gave it a good clean ready for stripping down. I had anticipated it taking a while but it really only took about 45 min...

Re: Could this be the start if Sluggy II?

its looking good. You could make the cover with some good old bridge a gap filler just get a foil pie dish from the local chippy. put some tape around the top of it put a layer of bridge a gap on the inside and up to the top of the tape. you would only need about 3-5mm layer you can get the aluminiu...

hi Sounds like a bad conection will be either where the ignition and the starter get its feed or where the earths are more likley to be on Pos side if you are running chassis earth unless its the main earth. It may be even the battery conection. If the lights go out everything is going. If it was th...

Re: The biginning of the heap of crap

Hand controls part 2 Front brake master cylinder is now mounted to the bars I used an offcut from the throttle tube and a piece of 5/8” square bar a bit of drilling and filing and its sorted. Hand controls I need a front brake and a throttle to start with I am too tight to get some handle bars made from the correct stuff so the bars I have will do. I used 1” Gas pipe which is just over 26.5mm O.D and I managed to get some that’s 27mm I.D for the grips. I bought 2m of it as I thought I wa...

Bugger It turns out that the quick release union on the Zafira hose is not the correct dimensions. :( It was too long and has a slightly bigger diameter it is also different where the chamfer is. Re: Flickering lights

Hi you could try some sort of a suppressor or a choke on the fuel pump this might take the pulse away. I think you can get them for alternators to prevent radio interface. Also if you are running the superdream harness make sure the connections are good as they did tend to corrode.

I just used some washing up liquid and water mix and a coolant pressure tester attachment with a car tyre valve bodged on to the end. I use between 4 and 8 psi of air( much more and as I foun...

Re: VW Polo Diesel Engine & Gearbox to Goldwing Shaft Drive

Alf Its a shame you can't get a car with a duff engine it would be straight forward then you could strip everything in a day. There are plenty of scrap dealers that will pick up for free to get rid of it. Wiring is not that difficult realy if you get a good diagram for the engine management all the ...

Re: VW Polo Diesel Engine & Gearbox to Goldwing Shaft Drive

Alf, have you got the key. for me this would be the most important part as most of the sensors will be on the engine maybe airflow sensor and map sensor and low pressure pump fitted out side of the engine. Its to early to give it up yet as you have it in front of you i think it would be possible. Wh...

Re: VW Polo Diesel Engine & Gearbox to Goldwing Shaft Drive

Foot clutch will be ok H box means neutral between each gear just bang it out of gear just before you stop if you must put your left foot down. I think a foot clutch will be best route to go if using the car gearbox fairly straight forward.

Re: VW Polo Diesel Engine & Gearbox to Goldwing Shaft Drive

hi I had the same thoughts when i started out. The car is set up to do 60 ish at about 2000 - 2500 rpm at the engine and around 800-850rpm at the wheel depending on what tyre size you use. if you gear that down with another final drive your engine rpm will have to go up by the factor of the final dr...
