Re: Hamm 2018 Rally

Brilliant to be back at another diesel bike rally in Germany - thanks again for organising Rafael and also to Alex for leading Dave and I on some superb rides in Holland. Hope everyone got/gets back safely. Dan

Re: Hamm 2018 Rally

Stuart - hope you don’t mind but I moved your post to the Hamm 2018 thread! Got my ferry booked - I’ll be doing the overnight Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry arriving morning of Friday 7th then a ride through the dykes to Germany. I’ve missed the last couple so can’t wait and really looking forward...

This sadly coincides with the wife’s birthday this year so I can’t make it. Have a great rally all and see you in Hamm!

Re: Hamm 2017 Rally

Thanks to an op date being moved I'm now unable to go to Hamm this year. Gutted to be honest not in the least given for related reasons I couldn't make the Big Knock either. Have a great time to everyone who is making it, take plenty of pictures and safe riding.

Re: GTL Diesel (Gas to liquid)

UK V-Power from Shell apparently contains GTL though in what proportion is anyone's guess as Shell didn't release that information. Out of interest Bert (and for the next time I'm in the Netherlands) is GTL easy to find there? Is there a specific fuel company (like Shell) that is selling it? I'd be ...

Re: Is that bike diesel mate.

Slightly off topic as not diesel related but I can highly recommend Nathan Millward's "The Long Ride Home" book. Very much a story that includes both his struggles with the personal side of the journey from Australia to the UK and - and what many of the other so called "biker journey" books omit - k...

Haynes and tool humour

Have seen some of these before but they still raise a chuckle... Haynes: Rotate anticlockwise. Translation: Clamp with molegrips (adjustable wrench) then beat repeatedly with hammer anticlockwise. You do know which way is anticlockwise, don't you? Haynes: Should remove easily. Translation: Will be c...

Thanks Stuart! That is amazing with the BMW - a real petrol to diesel conversion. Keep the photos coming and hope you guys are having a great time there - do say hello to everyone from me.

Re: Hamm 2016 dates? = 9-11 Sept

So the ferry is due to chuck us off at 06:30 (I'm pretty sure it used to be a more sensible hour?), no doubt by the time we get off the boat and through passport control it may well be 7am. Dave! I got caught out by this on the family holiday earlier in the year - it's 8am rather than 6.30am (which...

I sold my diesel Enfield in 2013 and have been on the naughty step since having had a petrol FJR1300 and various petrol cars (including a beautiful Volvo 740 with only 30k miles). By pure chance I'm now back in the world of diesel as I bought the last unregistered right hand drive SAAB 9-5 earlier t...

I remain jealous of your Acadiane ownership! What a lovely car... And on topic... 32 psi :) Third wheel. Doesn't support you. Nothing other than a drag on the bike. 32 should be high enough to give minimal resistance with load but low enough to stop bouncing. Maybe we should have a sweepstake on wha...

The issue here is you are assuming that as the engine size is larger the power output will be increased. The quality of Chinese clone engines seems to be getting better but there are still significant variances in tolerances across all major components. From everything you've described your engine s...

Sam - I think you're totally right as far as the bike manufacturers having the opportunity and not wanting to pursue. The bike market has become one where only significant volume production is economically viable and in diminishing markets such as many of the European countries this is why you're st...

I've had the delight of some serious travel planning over the last year and pretty much everything is in place for my trip down to the Swiss Alps then back through Germany via Hamm. Re: Things I have to watch out in Europe/Germany

One thing that catches out UK riders (myself included) in both Germany and France is the changing of speed limit at junctions along a main road. The limit may well be 100km/h but with little warning it will drop to 80 or maybe 70 for a few hundred metres (I think I've even seen a 50) then back up to...
