This year's project ..... The Lump

Greetings from Somerset :)

This is my Daihatsu Charade 1 litre, 3 cylinder turbo diesel in a slightly modified BMW R80 rolling chassis.

It is just rolled out of the garage, still in a raw state. This is destined to be the new sidecar hauler.

Question: does anybody have details of the wiring on the diesel pump (4 wires) and the wiring of the alternator to external rectifier as fitted on the Daihatsu Charade please?

See you all at the Big Knock on my trusty Kubota/Enfield

Steve

(The home-to-Paris-to Brittany -home ride went well ..... no problems)

Hi there.

On my Ural-Charade I binned the Daihatsu alternator and just used a common Lucas one off a Leyland Mini (or maybe it was a Reliant) with a built-in reg-rec - just one wire to connect.

4-wire connector block - I'll need to go and have a look. I _think_ the only one you need is to the shut-off solenoid (at pump output, just before the fuel lines from pump to injector) which needs +12v to click open.

On mine I kept the diaphragm on top of the inj pump which monitors turbo plenum pressure and richens things up on boost - and got rid of all the others which I think were there for cold tickover etc. It works fine, and I have no electric start.

Yours looks rather tidier than mine...

Looks really good.

I'd like to see what you have done with the top frame tube :)
Kubota Z482 which is plodding on with unnerving reliability. Three years so far.
1900 Diesel Bike being rebuilt with better clutch control.

To confirm last post - on mine, one is an earth which I didn't need (it earths OK through engine block / frame), one is the solenoid I mentioned, and two are (racking brains a bit here) from a sender for the electronic rev counter which the car came with, which I have not used.

cheers
Mark
