Greeting from northen Indiana

Hello everyone this is Cableguy344 AKA Rich. I have a 1995 Ural with 2 wheel drive. Diesel Dave posted on a Ural forum about his dnpner. I am going to have to rebuild my engine soon and was thinking a diesel might be something to consider. I'm not looking for a high speed rig. Most of my rides are around town with my dog in the sidecar, with a few ocasional rides to my parents (150 mile round trip) I do wish to keep the Ural transmission due to it having reverse. I just need to see what would work best and if I am going to have to modify the frame. I've attached a picture of Jerry and me cruising around the neighborhood

Nice to meet you Rich. To avoid confusion... there was already a Diesel Dave registered here so I believe Dneper Dave you speak of is registered here as Locomotivebreath. He is a good fellow.

coachgeo you are correct, on the Russian Iron web site Locomotivebreath is registered as diesel dave. I need to send him a message asking specifics about the type of engine he used and if the frame needs to be streched. I believe the dnepner and ural are very close in size. After reading more of the posts I found gains in MPG would be a great thing also.

Welcome to the forum, the particular bike your riding seems to be a real gem for a diesel project. Like you have stated one has to do some homework before thinking of converting to diesel power.

All good points raised, yes keeping the standard gearbox would be a must have. I'm clanging around on a single lung Enfield so I cannot offer any advice, although there are a few here that are very knowledgeable with converting bikes such as yours.

He used an air cooled Ruggerini RD211. Basically the same as a Lombardini. Same bike has been converted with many engines though. Hatz, Lombardini(Kohler), Ruggerini, Diahatsu(Briggs)

Dave does not have Internet till he finds time to visit a hot spot. Believe though you can find information on his bike several places on the Internet.

I got your e-mail, it would take hours of writing, better just call me or me call you, read over this forum and ask lots of qustions, alot to learn, but well worth it. Keep in touch.

Here's a picture of a Ural I belive built in Florida last year with a Turbocharged Briggs & Stratton/Daihatsu Diesel (My first choice for a Diesel Conversion)
