A 650 ruggerini on ebay in the Liverpool region, should be good for someone.

Well spotted Ian. One day we'll have to make a list of what Rug engines are ok for our purposes and which aren't. I say this because some have firing/crank configs that generate excess vibes :| Not sure which this would be.

Oh dear, I didn't know that.
Yes I guess a list would be good in that case.

Thanks for the info. :)

Usually the 3600rpm models are better suited for our needs right? I think this is the 3000rpm model.

Your right with it being a 3000rpm model...

It says it on the engine plate...

EDIT: the MD151 engine, which I believe is the same engine, will rev to 3600rpm with 15.2hp...

I would suspect that these engines can easily be converted from 3000->3600 and vice versa, either with drop-in replacements or modifying existing parts.

On my engine it's just down to turning a screw out to take it from 3600 to 4300, it's likely to smoke at top revs but hey. :)

Which screw is this to increase the rpm? My workshop manual only mentions the big slotted screw with the locknut behind and above the "throttle" lever, which increases fuel delivery (i.e. more smoke and horsepower) but nothing to increase governed rpm.

I went through the parts manual for the MD series, and there is not a single part different between the 150 and 151 (or 190 and 191), so it must just be an adjustment thing. It seems odd to me that they would name the model differently rather than just make different spec.

All the MD engines are odd firing (pistons move in different directions) which gives a funky exhaust note, like an old 2cyl John Deere tractor, but the engine I have sure is smooth and quiet.

On my engine its the lever at the end of the throttle cable, pull it full on and you will see a screw / small bolt stopping the lever going too far. That's the one.

"big slotted screw with the locknut" I have looked for this on my engine but it doesn't seem to have one

180 degree crank?

that would be nice :)

If I could get the engine I would be tempted :P

Merseyside is a bit far from cornwall...

only other thing is that tapered shaft...would prefer a straight shaft really...

A nice Lombardini in this genny (not sure what power though)

also, a nice 10hp yanmar clone:

Igor, I guess you would call the rugs a 180 degree crank. The pistons reach TDC 180degrees from each other. You can hear them a bit on a YouTube clip provided by our own "hatz350" called "Variomatic MZs." I think these bikes have the MD191 engines. Near the end of the video you can hear one of them idling...pretty cool. Sorry I don't have the link, but do the search for "hatz250" and you'll find it.

The sound begins at 1:55 and continues until 2:12. It begins with a higher idle speed, and then the speed drops to low idle. The video is focusing on the red bike. I'm actually not clear whether we're hearing the red bike or one outside of the picture, but either way, that is what they sound like. If you have a subwoofer as part of your computer speakers, it works better.

There is another vid of a ruggerini diesel MZ with a sidecar here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61wicIy1 ... re=channel. There is some good sound of it accelerating away at the end.
