Q PLATE THREAT TO CLASSIC MODIFIERS

Looking at this weeks Classic Car Weely I spotted this headline.

FREE TAX LOSS THREAT
Clasic enthusiasts who mdify their cars could face a £450 test get a Q plate and loose free raod tax, it emerged this week. Popular upgrades such as carburettor or gearbox swaps could make a car eligable for a six hour assesment ordeal.

Especially as the police will be looking for bikes with modifications outside of the Bulldog bash this year.

Well I haven't read the pamflet in detail, but it sure looks difficult. If you look at the list, I wonder what "two other major components" are left if you can't count Forks, Wheels and Engine/gearbox. I sure hope I'm reading it wrong, and the other major components can be picked from forks wheels and engine/gearbox.

MOTORCYCLES MUST USE:
  • Unmodified frame (original or new)
  • AND two other major components from the original machine
  • Forks
  • Wheels
  • Engine/gearbox

If a second-hand frame is used an MOT certificate will be required
to register the vehicle and a 'QNI' prefix registration number
will be allocated.
'92 Enfield + Hatz 1B40: street legal, weld up exhaust and fix engine rpm/oil leak.
