So after putting this all together.... approximately how much more (or less) does the CVT stick out compared to the 3" belt drive?

Any pictures of how you transfered belt drive power from CVT to chain drive? (assuming you used a jack shaft)

Thats brilliant Heiko, thanks for the video.

I also saw your electric R1 video which was great too! Some good engineering there. I think there is a prize for the first electric bike to do 100mph lap of Isle of Mann?...

Thought it looked bigger. Approximately 7cm IS doable. I left a weight question for you in the CVT forum.

...the bearing are two http://cgi.ebay.d...
For What It's Worth (FWIW) these are called Pillow Blocks here in US.

Did the engine mount location end up the same as your other Tigers? As in did the CVT require you to pull the engine back some? If different belt lengths are possible.... would pulling the engine back any be of any advantage for example in weight distribution?

oh.... and most of all.... AWESOME JOB. Great custom work and much thanx for sharing it.

Heiko....something you might want to keep your eye on with the bikes built on the Tiger/Trophy frame is the potential for frame cracks with the heavier diesel engine.

Here is a report on one such crack on a stock bike. A bike supposedly that has not been thrashed over the years. It's a 1993 Tiger. Unfortunately you have to register at that site to see the pics... but you really should check them out IMHO

Pics are now posted at Tiger Triple which if I recall right Heiko you are already a member of.

Wow, that is pretty awesome! Do you know how much horsepower the engine is putting out? How much boost do you run? It makes me want to keep my Comet 94C and find something to put it on. Good work, Heiko.

if your referencing my post above this... I was asking about the weight of the Tiger with Ultima compared to Tiger with the CVT.

Love your work.

thank you. You posted the extra width before, thank you for measuring to clarify.

Was NOT looking for that this time though. Looking for an estimation on weight differences. While the CVT Pully's and belt appear much lighter than an Ultima... what Im wondering is. by the time you have weight of whole assembly (Pully one + Pully two + Belt + Jack shaft + brackets and bearings that hold jack shaft)... has this reduced the weight compared to other tigers with Ulima Tranny?

A lot?? just a little?, no weight saving?

Now your saying

I am a bit confused now. I am sure it is my misunderstanding of something.

You stated this CVT came out of a car. Was the CVT pully's and belt installed inside a transmission case in this car? If so did you get to them by just disassembling them from the case? did it sit in an oil bath or something originally? Just wondering if us diesel Bike builder folk need to start looking for used transmissions or transmission parts out of CVT cars for use as cvt bike parts?

If this cvt of yours was part of a computer or??? controlled CVT automobile tranny... can you give us some insight on how you prepared these pulleys and belts to work with a bike.

I believe you stated your CVT came out of a 3cyl diesel powered car powered with an engine having a similar power curve to your Tiger's Lombardini , so I assume the movement of the pulleys were already adjusted close to what you wanted. Is this correct in my understanding? Did you find (or even look) if this automobile CVT could be adapted (change weight or rollers) to allow for adjustments such as what rpm it's engages drive and what rpms it is at max ratio etc. etc.

much thanx for all your help past and present.

i think you are an person who talk more than you do.
why you strip no triumph and build in the engine. all you 1000questions will answering by them self.
if you dont know how to to i will build you one how you want , no problem.
but you talk now about that bike sine 1 and a half year, or, i am wright?
i that time i make 40 bikes. and i have an main job too and two children and a wife wich want always to go in holiday.
so dont say you have no time to convert. i work sunday and i work to night 12 o clock.
make it dont talk.
so now to the weight.
engine from triumph is 97kg. engine in paper lombardini is 78kg. but in real is 85kg. both vario is 5kg. all brackets are ca 7kg.
axel ca 2kg.
now i take down ca 8kg from flywheel.
gearbox 6 speed is 20kg. clutch ca 6kg.
now you can calculate your dream bike in kg.
i hope it helps you now.
thanks heiko

Yep that is me. Tigers are rare here in America. Took around 6 months to find ones with snookered engines.

Asking questions keeps me engaged in the project since hands on engagement at the moment is near impossible. Will also save me much time and money once I get started again. I have little time to wrench and little money. So much much thanx for your answers. You answers have helped many people here.

Have no garage to work in. Had a garage tent; it ruined in the weather. Bike's and my tools are located 1/4 mile into the back of a field where I have storage and a partially constructed off the grid home. Can only be reached by foot since... Oct... maybe Nov.. I forget. It has been such a wet winter, It's too muddy. when it dries enough to get a truck back there I will move them to a shop that has been offered by a member here.

My personal economy is tuff oh well.. that's just the way it is. I keep moving forward anyway. I work 8am till 9pm and as a biz. owner I pay my employees leaving nothing left to pay myself. I dig into my savings to eat and cover biz losses to keep the business afloat. When an uptick in local economy brings me a few more students I buy another piece for this project or others. Again... trodding forward.

Would take me 3 years to save enough for a new Briggs/Diahatsu or Lombardini/Kohler so I hunt for used ones to trod forward. In my Build thread it is noted that I finally ordered an engine; 8-10 wks or so ago. Go figure, the freight company LOST IT. So I'm now out nearly $2,000 usd. and no engine. Freight company say they will cover my loss at a whopping $23.50 usd (based on ten cents a pound) cause it was used machinery by their standards. The seller; who payed for the shipping, is preparing a lawsuit against the freight company. I may see my money back after legal battle but I doubt it. All I can do is trod forward.

Reality is I wont be able to pull together the funds to buy another used engine for at least a year. Oh well. all I can do is trod forward toward that.

Such is life.. you trod forward a step.. your forced back three... you trod forward again. Next trod will be make a place to park my car where it wont get stuck and fix up an old Rokon to use to get across the field. My home is back there too. Been sleeping on the floor of my office for way too long. In there somewhere will be selling the Ultima and belt drive and start looking for a CVT. Looks like this time... being pushed backward might have been an advantage.

Trod on folk, Don't take what you have for granted. Keep smiling and stay healthy for your kids.

PS- Others will be very interested in you answers to the CVT questions. I wont bother you anymore.

OT- Doing office work right now and surfing the net this fine Sunday cause once again it..

SNOWED in texas

4th time since Dec. (it's Global Warming you know) been raining most every weekend or more since Nov if not before. Plan for today was to head out to my property and put wood from the 100's of pallets I've cut up down to make a place to park my car.

anyway..... speaking of Trodding along and relating ones normality to someone elses. Check this out.
